Stairlifts: Safety & Warranty Issues

Read this BEFORE purchasing stairlifts in Oregon and Washington!

If you've searched the internet looking for the best price on stairlifts, you've no doubt run into some deals that sound too good to be true....They Just Might Be.

Some companies sell stairlifts nationwide yet do not have the required licenses to do so in all states.  Why do they sell in states where they are not licensed to do so?  To avoid paying the fees for licensing, insurance and bonding.

Legal Issues

  • It is illegal to sell stairlifts in Oregon and Washington without a State Contractors License and a Stair Lift Sales License.
  • Stairlifts that are not permitted cannot be serviced by a licensed technician and parts cannot be legally sold for them.

There are currently no out of state vendors that are licensed elevator contractors in Oregon or Washington.  Only elevator contractors can submit stair lift applications in these states.

Safety & Warranty Issues for Stairlifts

  1. Safety: For your safety, the Sates of Oregon, Washington and Idaho go through great lengths to make sure that only qualified professionals are licensed to install stairlifts.  An improperly installed stair lift can result in serious injury or death.

  2. Warranty: If your stair lift does not pass inspection, the parts cannot be warrantied.  Only stairlifts installed by a technician who is licensed in your state can pass inspection.  Without a warranty, it is very expensive to get required maintenance and to fix any problems should they arise.

By understanding the risks of so called "discount" stair lift companies, you are in a better position to make an informed decision on your stair lift investment.
